Tour overview

The ride at a glance

Our 12-day loop combines the Atlantic coast, the High Atlas and Anti-Atlas ranges, the kasbah valleys, remote southern pistes and the dunes of Erg Chebbi before returning to Casablanca. With nights in Essaouira, Marrakech, the Sahara and the Draa region, it combines a wide range of landscapes and riding conditions in one itinerary.

This is the longest and most varied ride we run, and the one that shows you how many different countries fit inside Morocco. Starting and finishing in Casablanca, the loop opens on the Atlantic — El Jadida, the Oualidia lagoon and the windswept ramparts of Essaouira — then turns south past Agadir and climbs inland through argan country to Marrakech. From there you cross the High Atlas on the Tizi n'Tichka, drop through the Ounila Valley to Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate, and follow the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs through the Dades bends and Todra Gorge. The desert stage takes you past Erfoud and Rissani to Merzouga for a full day riding the tracks around Erg Chebbi and a night at camp. The return continues: west through Alnif and N'Kob into the palm corridor of the Draa Valley to Zagora, then the remote Foum Zguid and Tazenakht stage across the Anti-Atlas before the final High Atlas crossing back to Marrakech and the run north to Casablanca. Twelve days, and coast, mountain, gorge, oasis and open Sahara in a single loop.

  • Full coast-to-desert loop
  • High Atlas and Anti-Atlas crossings
  • Multiple desert nights
  • Essaouira, Marrakech and the Draa Valley

Day by day

Itinerary

A typical daily plan. We adjust it for weather, your pace and any must-see requests.

  1. 1

    Arrive Casablanca

Arrive in Casablanca and settle into the accommodation confirmed for your itinerary. If an airport transfer is included, it is arranged in advance. If motorcycle rental is part of your booking, the handover is completed before the ride, and your guide explains the route, terrain and important practical information. An optional Corniche ride can be considered if the flight schedule and daylight permit.

  2. 2

    Casablanca → Essaouira

Ride south-west from Casablanca along the Atlantic, with possible stops at El Jadida or the Oualidia lagoon. Continue beside farmland, cliffs and fishing villages to Essaouira, finishing the day near its white-walled medina and busy harbour.

  3. 3

Essaouira → Agadir → Agadir Region / Western Atlas Foothills

Follow the coast past quiet beaches and surf villages, with a stop around Imssouane before continuing toward Agadir. Turn inland as the road begins to climb into the western Atlas foothills, where the air cools and the landscape changes from ocean plains to mountain valleys. The overnight stop is in the Agadir region on the western edge of the Atlas foothills; we confirm the exact town and accommodation with you before departure.

  4. 4

Agadir Region / Western Atlas Foothills → Marrakech

Spend the day on scenic mountain roads through argan country and traditional villages. Cross a series of ridges and valleys before descending toward Marrakech, where the evening offers time to walk through the medina and experience Jemaa el-Fna.

  5. 5

Marrakech → Ait Benhaddou → Ouarzazate

Leave Marrakech and climb the High Atlas by the Tizi n'Tichka pass, stopping at viewpoints and mountain villages. Continue through the Ounila Valley to Ait Benhaddou, then ride on to Ouarzazate, known as the gateway to Morocco's desert routes.

  6. 6

Ouarzazate → Dades & Todra Gorges

Ride through the Skoura palm groves and Rose Valley along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. Explore the Dades bends and continue toward Todra Gorge, where high limestone walls and a riverside walk provide a dramatic break from the motorcycles.

  7. 7

    Todra → Merzouga (Erg Chebbi)

Leave Todra and cross the open landscapes of south-eastern Morocco through Erfoud and Rissani. The road ends at Merzouga, where the dunes of Erg Chebbi fill the horizon and the first Sahara sunset marks the beginning of the desert stage.

  8. 8

Merzouga — Erg Chebbi Dunes Day

Ride a complete circuit around Erg Chebbi, using a mix of rocky pistes, dry-lake tracks and optional sand selected for the group's skill. The route may include Khamlia and selected desert settlements, with lunch near the dunes before finishing at the accommodation or camp confirmed in your itinerary.

  9. 9

Merzouga → Draa Valley → Zagora

Turn west across the stony desert through Alnif and N'Kob, with long views of the Jbel Saghro. Enter the date-palm corridor of the Draa Valley and follow its kasbah-lined road toward Zagora, once a historic departure point for Saharan caravans.

  10. 10

Zagora → Foum Zguid → Tazenakht

Leave Zagora for one of the expedition's most remote stages, following desert roads and selected pistes toward Foum Zguid. Continue across broad, sparsely populated landscapes to Tazenakht, with the route adjusted to weather, track conditions and the group's off-road confidence.

  11. 11

Tazenakht → High Atlas → Marrakech

Ride north from Tazenakht through changing Anti-Atlas scenery and reconnect with the High Atlas route. Cross the mountain pass toward Marrakech, pausing for final panoramic views before descending to the city for the last evening of the expedition.

  12. 12

    Marrakech → Casablanca — Departure

The final morning is scheduled entirely around your departure flight. The road transfer from Marrakech to Casablanca requires substantial time and should be planned around your confirmed flight schedule, with appropriate stops along the way. Where flight times make a same-day transfer impractical or uncomfortable, we recommend adding an extra night in Casablanca; tell us your flight details and we will confirm the plan and any additional accommodation cost with you in advance.

Best time to travel

A general guide by season — we confirm the ideal window when you book.

This loop crosses three climates in one trip: Atlantic coast, high mountain passes and open Sahara. Spring and autumn are often good choices for combining the desert and the High Atlas, although temperatures, snow and road conditions vary from year to year. The notes below are a general guide — we confirm the best dates and adjust daily distances for heat or weather when you book.

Season: Spring (Mar–May)

A popular window. Green coast and foothills, warm but manageable desert days, and the Tizi n'Tichka and Anti-Atlas roads open and clear. Book early — these dates go first.

Season: Autumn (Sep–Nov)

Another popular window, which can be quieter on some dates. Settled weather, comfortable Sahara temperatures after the summer peak, and excellent light in the Draa Valley and the gorges.

Season: Winter (Dec–Feb)

Bright, still days in the south and superb visibility, but genuinely cold nights at Merzouga and the desert camp, and occasional snow can close the High Atlas passes. We carry a lower-altitude alternative and add warm layers to the kit list.

Season: Summer (Jun–Aug)

The hardest option. Inland and desert temperatures are extreme by midday, so we start at first light, shorten the desert stages and build in long midday breaks. The Atlantic opening days stay pleasant throughout.

Tour questions

Specific questions about this route.

Can clubs book the expedition privately?
Yes — motorcycle clubs and groups can reserve a private departure with a customised pace and stops. Tell us your group size.
What if I cannot manage 12 days?
We can usually trim the route to 9–10 days while keeping the Atlantic coast, the High Atlas crossing and the Erg Chebbi dunes. One way to shorten the route is to reduce the remote Zagora–Foum Zguid–Tazenakht section. Ask us for a shorter version.
Can I rent a motorcycle or bring my own?
Both. You can ride your own motorcycle, or motorcycle rental can be arranged through our local partners. Available motorcycles, availability and rental conditions are confirmed with you before booking — tell us your preference in the enquiry form.
What is included in the price?
What is included depends on the final arrangement. Elements such as guidance, a support vehicle, accommodation, airport transfers, route information and briefing, and luggage transport can be part of your tour, but availability and inclusion will be confirmed in your personalised quotation. Motorcycle rental, fuel, flights, insurance and personal spending are typically arranged separately — tell us your needs in the inquiry form.
Do you arrange travel and medical insurance?
We do not sell insurance, but we strongly recommend a policy that covers motorcycle touring and medical evacuation. Arrange it with your provider before you travel.
How do payments and cancellations work?
We confirm availability, price and deposit terms with you by email after your inquiry. Nothing is charged until we agree the details — never send payment through this website.
Can the tour be customised?
Yes. Dates, start city, pace and stops can all be adjusted, and we can build a fully private version for your group or club. Send the inquiry form and we will propose a route.
