A useful southern base for the Atlantic coast and the Anti-Atlas.
Agadir is a modern city rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, which means it has none of the medina character of Marrakech or Fes. For riders that is largely beside the point. What Agadir offers is climate and position: it stays mild when the Atlas is under snow, and it opens onto two very different kinds of riding — the Atlantic coast road north and the granite country of the Anti-Atlas inland.
The reason to know about Agadir is seasonal. When Atlas passes are shutting for snow and the desert nights are cold, the southern Atlantic coast is still comfortable. When high mountain routes are affected by winter conditions, Agadir can provide a useful starting point for lower-altitude coastal and Anti-Atlas itineraries. Conditions still vary, so we confirm the route close to departure.
The road towards Essaouira runs above the Atlantic through argan country and small fishing villages, with cliff sections, long open stretches and a persistent sea breeze. It is flowing coastal riding with big views and very little technical demand — the sort of day that balances out a hard mountain stage.
Turn inland instead and the character changes completely: the Souss valley opens into the granite landscape around Tafraoute, with painted rocks, palm oases and some of the quietest good tarmac in Morocco. This is the region most first-time visitors never reach, and it is a strong argument for a longer trip.
Agadir has an international airport, plenty of accommodation and straightforward logistics, which makes it a workable start or finish point for a tour that does not want to begin in Marrakech. The city itself is functional rather than atmospheric.
One or two nights as a base. Longer if you are using it to reach the Anti-Atlas, which deserves two or three days of its own.
Excellent in winter, when it is one of the most comfortable places to ride in Morocco. Pleasant year-round; summer is hot inland but tempered on the coast.

Our 12-day loop combines the Atlantic coast, the High Atlas and Anti-Atlas ranges, the kasbah valleys, remote southern pistes and the dunes of Erg Chebbi before returning to Casablanca. With nights in Essaouira, Marrakech, the Sahara and the Draa region, it combines a wide range of landscapes and riding conditions in one itinerary.

A relaxed eight-day ride from Agadir to Casablanca along Morocco's Atlantic shore — empty coastal sweepers, the harbours of Essaouira and El Jadida, the Oualidia oyster lagoon — then a taste of the Atlas foothills before Casablanca. A scenic ocean-to-city route, and it runs in either direction.
